History of Fund

Environmental (Green) Investments Fund (hereunder – the Fund) is a non-governmental, consulting organization that provides expertise relating to climate change mitigation strategies and policies for businesses, governmental and civil organizations.

The Fund has brought together key Ukrainian experts on climate change, energy efficiency, project analysis and preparation. Our staff includes professionals with advanced degrees and qualifications in natural sciences, climatology, economics and mathematics. By combining research findings with public policy issues and political insights, our consulting staff provides clients with timely, cost-effective intelligence and advice.

Experts of the Fund have extensive experience providing the full spectrum of technical energy efficiency and climate change services to a broad range of clients. Each of our senior personnel has practiced in the energy efficiency and climate change fields for more than 10 years. The experts employed by the Fund have long term experience in the following areas:

  • Development of national and sectoral inventories of GHG emissions and absorption;
  • Assessment and development of the GHG mitigation projects including JI projects;
  • Development of JI Data Bases;
  • Preparation of National communication on climate change under UNFCCC;
  • Preparation of national and regional action plans on climate change;
  • Improvement of energy efficiency in industry;
  • Preparation of rational for the ratification of UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol by Ukrainian government;
  • Providing training services, conducting workshops, seminars and round-tables pertaining to climate change.

The employees of the Fund are technical leaders in their respective fields. Our professional excellence and leadership have been  reflected in our extensive and active record of publications (see attached the list of selected publications), our professional service and recognitions, and the proportion of our staff with advanced degrees. In addition to their technical expertise, our staff brings extensive experience from government and industry to ensure that projects are grounded in both the technical cutting edge and in practical realities.

Members of the staff have occupied leading positions in USAID program “Climate Change Initiative” (www.climate.org.ua), Canada-Ukraine Environmental Cooperation Program , the National Joint Implementation Strategy Study for Ukraine  (Project of the Collaborative Swiss/World Bank Program of National JI/CDM Strategy Studies), UN project   Capacity Building for Improving the Quality of Greenhouse Gas Inventories (Europe/CIS region), US Country Studies Program etc.

 

Currently the Fund in collaboration with the National Environmental Investment Agency of Ukraine (NEIA) is working on the following projects:

Rendering active assistance to the  NEIA in development and implementation of the legal framework for Ukraine to participate in JI and IET ( Green Investment Scheme)

Development of the concept to perfect the Ukraine’s GHG emission regulation system and creation of the domestic emission trading system .

Perfecting of the process of development of the  National GHG inventory based on the Ukraine’s up-to-date socio-economic environment

Assessment of the  domestic GHG mitigation policies and measures, including potential impact on GHG emission reductions and country’s economic performance

Providing full scale turn-key consultancy on JI projects

Development of the approaches to the establishment of the National and sectoral  GHG emissions monitoring systems

Development of the methodology for establishment of GHG emissions baselines in key economic sectors (e.g. - power sector)

Development of capacity building and training programs for Government representatives and local consultancies.
